Fred Martinez, LCSW
Fred Martinez is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work (DCSW). He received a bachelor's degree in social work from Nebraska Wesleyan University and earned a master's degree in social work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Fred is a certified school social worker (Type 73) and has also obtained a supervisory endorsement certificate. Fred has over 20 years of experience working in a private practice setting as a psychotherapist and has over 25 years of experience working in a public high school providing counseling services for children in the regular and special education settings. Fred is a long standing member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Illinois Association of School Social Workers.
Fred specializes in working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. His areas of expertise include mood and thought disorders (anxiety, depression, and bi-polar), school-related concerns, and co-occurring disorders. Anger management, adaptive behavior, adjustment disorders, sport counseling, trauma, and loss are also areas of expertise. In working with the spectrum of therapeutic issues, Fred provides a comprehensive assessment, which leads to a well-developed treatment plan that addresses the client's needs and goals.
Fred provides counseling services by implementing various approaches of interventions, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, crisis intervention (Nova Model), behavior modification, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). His clinical approaches which are incorporated in therapy include task-oriented approaches and solution-based counseling. Fred has an eclectic approach to counseling, coupled with personalized care. His counseling mission is to assist clients in developing skills and strategies so they can maximize their personal potential and emotional growth.
